All I Ever Wanted

"All I ever wanted" to me, is a song that is quite personal. The lyrics are something special. I believe that every song should have a nice message behind it that is true to the artist's heart. Most songs nowadays have no personal meaning, in my opinion. Such as "Imma be" by the Black Eyed Peas. The song doesn't have a meaning that the public can get inspired by. Take their lyrics, for example: "Imma be on the next level. Imma be rockin' over that bass treble. Imma be chillin' with my mutha mutha crew. Imma be makin' them all deals you wanna do." For those of you who don't understand this, it basically means that they're gonna have fun, and just chill. Anyways, there isn't a strong message behind the song. Now I'm not saying that each and every song HAS to have a strong meaning, but it would be better than 'let's chill and have fun'. Now I'm not hating on every rap song either. Take Eminem for example. His songs have meanings behind them. He raps to let out his emotions and to inspire the public. The song "When I'm Gone" has such a meaningful, strong, emotional message.

Verse I
Have you ever loved someone so much, you'd give an arm for?
Not the expression, no, literally give an arm for?
When they know they're your heart
And you know you were their armour
And you will destroy anyone who would try to harm her
But what happens when karma, turns right around and bites you?
And everything you stand for, turns on you to spite you?
What happens when you become the main source of her pain?
"Daddy look what I made", Dad's gotta go catch a plane
"Daddy where's Mommy? I can't find Mommy where is she?"
I don't know go play Hailie, baby, your Daddy's busy
Daddy's writing a song, this song ain't gonna write itself
I'll give you one underdog then you gotta swing by yourself
Then turn right around in that song and tell her you love her
And put hands on her mother, who's a spitting image of her
Chorus:
And when I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn
Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice
Just know that I'm looking down on you smiling
And I didn't feel a thing, So baby don't feel no pain
Just smile back
And when I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn
Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice
Just know that I'm looking down on you smiling
And I didn't feel a thing, So baby don't feel no pain
Just smile back...

In the first verse, Eminem talks about how he had someone that he'd protect, and would do anything to protect that person. And then the person turns around and stabs him in the back. It then talks about the fact that he works so hard that he hurts the people around him and he didn't even realize it.
Then in the chorus, Eminem talks about when he's not around anymore and that his family shouldn't stop living their life and be sad about that, but they should be living their life the way it is meant to be lived.
There's no point in living your life in anger, sadness, pessimism, or negativity. Those are days, hours, minutes, seconds that you'll never get back. Spend those days, hours, minutes, and seconds as best as you can. Forget about "YOLO" (You only live once). Don't take YOLO as going out, getting drunk and wasting your precious minutes. YOLO? yeah, well did you forget about "YODO"??? (You only die once). 'Carpe Diem' means "seize the day" that is how people in the renaissance period used to live. What happened? They failed as a society. Why should you think along the lines of YOLO, or Carpe Diem, when you should be in fact thinking about YODO? Remember that you only get one chance in life, and that chance should be used wisely.
